Role Description

Using your own car to provide door-to-door transport for clients attending medical appointments (GP, clinic, hospital, dentist) within the Borough and further afield, as arranged by the Transport Scheme. Drivers will be based at home. The journeys will usually be within the driver’s local community area.

  • To collect passengers and drive them to/from their destination
  • Assist passengers to get in/out of your car when required
  • Collect passengers’ fares at the set rate
  • Keep accurate records of all journeys undertaken on behalf of Age Concern and keep account of all monies received
  • Inform Age Concern immediately of any changes to your health or changes (e.g. endorsements) that affect your driving licence, insurance or ability to drive
  • Ensure that your car is correctly taxed, insured, is roadworthy and has a valid MOT certificate at all times
  • Work in a caring and confidential manner, within the aims and objectives of Age Concern
  • Be self motivated and sensitive to the needs and wishes of your passengers and colleagues
  • Notify Age Concern as soon as possible of any incidents or accidents affecting passengers safety whilst on duty

Person Specification

  • Good timekeeping skills
  • Reliability and trustworthiness
  • An understanding of safety issues
  • Good listening skills and an understanding of safety issues
  • Understanding of and empathy with the needs of older people

Hours of Work: Usually between 9am and 5pm, weekdays, on days and times pre-arranged with the Transport Scheme.

Responsible to: Transport Co-ordinator

NB: A CRB check is required on all volunteers working in a one-to-one role.
