Role Description

Contribute to the well-being of an older person in Epsom & Ewell by visiting them in their own home to provide social contact on a regular basis, thus forming an ongoing relationship.

  • Assist with tasks such as reading, general correspondence and short local walks or outings if appropriate.
  • Respect autonomy and dignity of client, in line with Age Concern’s Confidentiality and Equal Opportunity policies.
  • Maintain contact with the Age Concern Epsom & Ewell office, and bring to the attention of the relevant Home Visitor any problems or concerns which may jeopardize the relationship or affect the health and safety of the client, volunteer or any other persons.
  • Keep in regular contact with the client (failure to do so could cause the volunteering role to stop).
  • Be prepared to attend any relevant training.

Personal Specification

  • Good communication skills essential
  • Ability to work unsupervised, using own initiative as required
  • Understanding of confidentiality
  • Understanding of and empathy with the needs of older people
  • Reliability, patience and sensitivity
  • Ability to deal with emergencies

Hours of work: Up to 1 - 2 hour per week at times mutually agreed between client and volunteer. Responsible to: Home Visitor

 NB: A CRB check is required for all volunteers working in a one-to-one role.
